Indiana University Bands Venues Stores Eat & Drink Around Town
Venues
The Bluebird
216 N Walnut St.

Perhaps the most popular bar and club in Bloomington, the Bluebird nightclub caters to the city’s residents as well as Indiana University students. It has hosted national popular artists from Ghostface Killah to Norah Jones, while also holding local events such as karaoke night and Hairbanger’s Ball – a tribute to metal.

David Kubiak, the longtime proprietor of “The Bird,” has successfully endured while other bastions of Bloomington nightlife come and go, and weekend nights will normally find the club filled with avid listeners huddling around the stage in the back room. – Stefania Marghitu

Buskirk-Chumley Theater
114 E Kirkwood Ave.

Originally founded in 1922 as a vaudeville theater, today the Buskirk-Chumley is one of the busiest community theatres in the country. Located on Bloomington’s main drag, Kirkwood Avenue, with its famed Indiana marquee, the Buskirk-Chumley has remained an ever-present institution in the city’s cultural life.

It has hosted national acts such as Regina Spektor and Arlo Guthrie, as well as film screenings and festivals such as the PRIDE Film Festival and Lotus World Music & Arts Festival. Run by volunteers, the Buskirk-Chumley remains busy as ever, staging some of Bloomington’s biggest shows. – Stefania Marghitu

Max's Place
109 W 7th St.

With its mantra of “changing the world one pizza at a time,” Max’s Place is both a music venue and pizzeria. Artists who play there are even reimbursed with pizza and drinks. It’s the place for Bloomington musicians to showcase their talents, whether through open mic night or individual performances.

From reggae to bluegrass, Max’s showcases a variety of music often overlooked by other venues in town and thus has solidified its presence in Bloomington as a place for both scrumptious pizza and unique musical talent. – Stefania Marghitu
