The Yacht Club
13 S Linn

The Yacht Club serves as one of Iowa City’s most versatile music venues. Always on the lookout for homegrown talent, The Yacht Club is responsible for helping launch and continuously supporting the careers of almost every local band. An average week has something for everyone, raging from a Sunday night open blues jam that lets musically talented attendees participate on their instrument of choice, to Tuesday night dance parties conducted by local DJs. The literally underground club also brings in a constant rotation of tribute bands, allowing concert-goers to see the music of their favorite artists recreated live. The Yacht Club loves to get into the festive spirit, as well, hosting musical celebrations of popular party-going holidays such as Halloween, New Years Eve and St. Patrick’s Day.

The Picador

330 E Washington St.

This two-level dive bar provides a home to Iowa City’s local hipsters and alternative music lovers. Downstairs at the Picador finds a full bar with booth seating, a vintage photo booth, a jukebox, and a pool table, while the upstairs opens up into an intimate stage and dance floor with a bar in the back for thirsty concert-goers. Shows play almost every night of the week, with acts ranging from local favorites The Envy Corps to nationally touring musicians We the Kings and Rocky Votolato. -- Daily Iowan Arts Staff
