Spindle Records
122 N 14th St.
When Homer's closed its downtown location, it opened the door for more business to flow to its neighbor to the south, Spindle Records. The store is locally owned and has more than 10,000 records in addition to a great local selection of CDs and independent movies on DVD. Many locals come through merely to browse or chat with whoever is behind the counter, but enough money has come in to keep this store open for the past three years and hopefully for many more.
Recycled Sounds
1211 O St. Monday – Saturday: 12:30 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Housed just east of Knickerbockers, Recycled Sounds offers an impressive selection of records, but also offers a huge inventory of hard-to-find and rare albums, concert footage and posters. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and is known to talk the ears off of anyone that comes through, all for their never-ending love of music, of course.
Dietze Music
1208 O St. Monday - Wednesday, Friday, Saturday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Thursday 10 a.m. - 9 a.m.
While Lincoln's musicians have only a few options to purchase new and used instruments, Dietze Music's central location and amicable staff make its downtown store a popular mainstay for people looking for acoustic guitars, sheet music or cowbells. Founded in 1927, the store has offered products and repair service on instruments for more than 80 years. The store even offers a great selection of its products on eBay for customers situated around the world. -- Jeremy Buckley
