Rites of Spring
April 18-19, 2008
Vanderbilt Students - $15
General Public - $45-55

In the spirit of the traditional university-sponsored music festival, Vanderbilt University puts on the annual music carnival Rites of Spring. The name plays on the seasonal connotations of renewal and harmony, but the festival is all about students coming together in a spirit of commencement and accomplishment at the end of the spring semester (and for some, the end of their college careers). This "final hurrah" is attended not only by students and faculty, but Nashville locals also turn out in droves for the musically diverse acts that come each and every spring. The past few years have featured acts such as The Roots, Hootie and the Blowfish, Robert Randolph, Jason Mraz, Wolfmother, My Morning Jacket, Mat Kearney, Amos Lee and Ben Folds. The roster for the upcoming 2008 festival contain such artists as Colbie Caillat, Old Crow Medicine Show, Feist, Spoon and the immortal rap legend — Lil Jon. The festival is known for its range of musical genres and mosaic atmosphere, which allows all who attend to enjoy some aspect of the music, the numerous attractions or just the laid-back vibe. -- Chris Gearing
