University of Nebraska, Omaha Bands Venues Stores Eat & Drink Around Town

Town profile video player

The past 15 years have seen a dramatic increase in the visibility of Omaha's vibrant music scene. When Mike Mogis and Robb Nansel founded Saddle Creek Records in 1993, it changed the face of the city that rests on the western slope of the Missouri River. Bands like Bright Eyes, Cursive and The Faint regularly find themselves in the pages of music magazines.

The national attention Omaha received has fostered a growing interest in local music of all genres, as promoters like One Percent Productions took advantage of the numerous music venues in town to create a bona fide scene. With the recent opening of the 16,000-capacity Qwest Center along with smaller venues such as Saddle Creek's 600-capacity Slowdown complex and O'Leaver's Tavern, Omaha is becoming a must-stop spot on the tour itineraries of bands of all sizes. -Jeremy Buckley
