Homer's Music
1114 Howard St.
Located in the heart of downtown Omaha, this locally based music store does more than just sell CDs. When hot acts come through they often perform here for acoustic in-stores, and fans signed up for weekly emails are offered chances to win tickets to a bevy of local concerts. Local music celebrities are often seen manning the registers so fans and tourists alike can spot members of The Good Life, Anonymous American and Neva Dinova when buying the latest, most hip CDs and vinyl. Huge posters adorn every inch of wall space and a back corner is home to dozens of local band T-shirts available for purchase.
Drastic Plastic
1209 Howard St.
Situated caddy-corner to Homer's Music in downtown Omaha, Drastic Plastic is a bit smaller and understandably caters to more of a niche crowd. Vinyl and hard-to-find albums are this stores forte, and passersby are more likely to define its innards as similar to the atmosphere of the record store portrayed in "High Fidelity." The store makes just as much money off of selling T-shirts as it does CDs, and its owners even distribute their own designs to more than 1,000 independent and specialty stores across the country. -- Jeremy Buckley
